The InCharge Institute is comprised of three services: InCharge Debt Solutions handles credit counseling and debt management; Education Foundation promotes consumer financial literacy; and Housing Counseling guides individuals to achieving home ownership. The company is intuitively organized but is lost in a crowded field of financial advisors with little to distinguish them from the other run-of-the-mill credit counselors.
Established in 1997, InCharge Debt Solutions has been a Better Business Bureau accredited company since 2002 and boasts an A+ rating. The company is also ISO:9001 and COA-accredited and is affiliated with AICCA.
InCharge Debt Solutions’ site offers a few educational financial articles and self-monitored quizzes. There are also some financial calculators for budget, college planning, mortgage, loan repayment, credit card, scenario and retirement planning. The auto, debt-to-income, net worth and tax calculators as well as any useful worksheets are missing. The Education Foundation charges $24.95 as of this writing for their e-Learning courses. This is a rather uncomfortable situation considering that those individuals who need the instruction are generally the ones who can least afford to pay for it.
The overall Institution offers a full range of counseling services including personal credit, debt management, housing and bankruptcy.
InCharge Debt Solutions’ site is nicely designed and clutter-free. The site functions as more of an advertising tool for the company rather than a service site. Their toll free phone number is featured prominently on all pages. One nice feature is that their consumer education topics are also displayed on all but the site’s home page so it’s easy to access the information from practically anywhere in the site. Contact with InCharge Debt Solutions is managed via the toll free phone number and an online form. The site supports both English and Spanish languages. The counselors are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern time.
As was stated at the beginning of the review, InCharge Debt Solutions is an average credit counseling service with a nice looking website and mediocre educational library some of which they are charging the financially-strapped user for. Their financial calculators are fairly standard. There’s simply nothing to really set the organization apart from their competitors.
