In business since 1999, American Financial Solutions credit counseling service is a division of the North Seattle Community College Foundation.

The organization has been BBB Accredited since 2002 and has a Better Business Bureau A rating. The company also has ISO 9001:2000 accreditation and is affiliated with the Association of Independent Consumer Credit Counseling Agencies.

The financial education that American Financial Solutions provides includes a blog, online classes, informational articles and links and a “bookstore” that contains recommended reading on a variety of financial topics for practically any age group. The site also features a set of eight free online classes with an option to receive a certificate of completion to add to a credit file.

The tools area is where the service stumbles. They only offer four different calculators and three budgeting worksheets which is skimpy when compared with many of the other services on our credit counseling review site.

American Financial Solutions offers an extensive set of services, including personal credit counseling, debt management counseling, foreclosure counseling, buying a home and bankruptcy counseling. Unfortunately, the site does not disclose the fees associated with any of the services.

The site is well designed, professional looking and fairly easy to navigate. The only lacking site element is a search feature which would make it considerably easier and faster to find specific information.

Counselors are available Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. Other forms of contact include email, fax, toll free phone number, mailing address and an online form. The site only supports English thereby limiting who can effectively use their services.
